Monaco has secured its place in the UEFA Champions League with a dramatic 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at Stade de France on Wednesday night.

The match was decided by a late goal from substitute Anthony Lopes as Monaco claimed their first Ligue 1 title since 2017 and sealed second spot in the table.

It is a remarkable achievement for the Principality club, who were tipped to finish outside the top four after a disappointing season last time out.

However, they have shown great resilience and determination throughout the campaign, with Lopes' goal securing them a direct spot in the Champions League.

"It's unbelievable," Monaco manager Vahid Halilhodzic said. "We worked hard all year and we got it done tonight."

Lopes' goal came deep into stoppage time as PSG looked set to snatch victory. However, he scored with a curling shot that beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and sent the home fans wild.

It was a fitting end to a memorable season for Monaco, who had to overcome several injuries and setbacks along the way.

But they showed their character and determination to come back from behind against Paris Saint-Germain and secure a historic victory.

"It was tough today but we stuck together and fought until the very end," Halilhodzic added.

"I'm so proud of my team. We've proven once again that we can compete at the highest level."
